Menstrual Problems #01

Menstrual Problems

When the hormonal system is not funtioning in its optimal state it can create upsets throughout the body.

Imbalanced hormones can lead to digestive problems, PMS headaches, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fibroids, endometriosis and an irregual cycle. A well-balanced cycle repeats every 29 to 32 days.

Ovulation occurs about 14 days before menstruation. However, cycle length and ovulation do not always fall into neat patterns. Reflexology can help balance the cycle and decrease any associated discomfort.

Reflexology may be beneficial for the following conditions & symptoms:

  • Premenstrual tension/syndrome
  • Irregular periods (considered irregular if falls outside the above criteria)
  • Dysmenorrhoea (painful menstrual periods)
  • Menorrhagia (heavy and excessive menstrual flow)
  • Oligomenorrhoea (scanty menstrual flow)
  • Amenorrhoea (absence of menstrual flow)
  • Muscle cramps
  • Mood swings
  • Insominia
  • Constipation
  • Headaches
  • Breast tenderness
  • Water retention
  • Heavy/irregular bleeding
  • Excessive pain
  • Back pain

Reflexology helps the client's cycle to settle into its own natural rhythm.

  • Pre-Menstrual Syndrome and Reflexology Research

A research paper published in the prestigious American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology reported that 38 emotional and physical pre-menstrual symptoms were reduced by an average of 46% for the 18 women being studied who received weekly reflexology sessions for two months. In addition, the pre-menstrual symptoms continued to be reduced by 41% for two months after the reflexology sessions were ended. The journal concluded that these clinical findings support the use of reflexology for the treatment of PMS.
